The trail in Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve is temporarily closed as a precaution due to a recent rockfall, said Dan Keefe, spokesman for New York State Parks.

"We are currently conducting an engineering assessment to determine steps necessary to ensure the safety of the trail," Keefe said. "It is premature to say when it may reopen."

The 8.6-mile trail, which runs from Cold Spring to Beacon, is considered to be the most strenuous hike in the East Hudson Highlands that involves steep climbs over rock ledges.

While closed, hikers are encouraged to visit other trails in the park, including Brook Trail, Washburn/Bull Hill/Cornish trails, Mount Beacon, and Wilkinson Trail.
